The Purpose of a home is to provide a healthy and comfortable habitat for our family, In order to do this among other things, we must maintain comfortable air temperatures whilst ensuring the air is free from excess humidity, smells and other harmful contaminants that could have negative effects on our health. This is the role of Ventilation!

Zenith Ventilation work with the best brands in the industry from MAICO, ALNOR, AIROMAID & DANTHERM to ensure only the highest quality is part of your home office or building.

VENTILATION TECHNOLOGY

Ventilation technology has a long history of which has continually evolved to meet the changes in the way we live and the way we build. The word Ventilation comes from the Latin term Ventialtio, which in 1660 was described as a process in which you “replace the air in an enclosed space with new and clean air. Up until the mid 1900’s airing & heat driven ventilation was the accepted form of ventilation for homes. It was quite simple!

With the fireplace lit, the warm less dense air would rise up through the chimney and the atmospheric pressure would bring fresh air into the building via vents and opening in the building. Since then the most common way of ventilation in Australia was simply by opening windows and also having exhaust fans in bathrooms, this is effective for air changes however it is very inefficient, as energy within the home literally blows out the window. It can also lead to very cold draughty winters. When humidity levels are high outside natural ventilation is not ideal either. In the modern-day, homes are built to a high energy efficiency standard which includes a well-insulated, much more airtight home. Therefore, mechanical ventilation becomes a necessity! After all, there is no point installing thermally broken double glazed windows if they are going to be chocked open 100mm for ventilation is there?

Role of Ventilation

How MVHR & HRV systems work

The ventilation system extracts air from the wet rooms (kitchen, bathrooms, toilets and utility room) on a continual basis. A counter-flow heat exchanger with a thermal efficiency of up to 96 % recovers the heat from the extract air that would otherwise have been lost, and transfers it to the supply air. Fresh heated supply air then flows into the living rooms. Supply air and extract air are totally separated from each other in order to keep the supply air clean. With Zenith Ventilation’s range of highly efficient and energy-saving mechanical residential ventilation solutions with heat recovery, suitable for new-build as well as for renovating, you will get the best possible indoor climate and even reduce your heating bill, as up to 96 % of the heat is recovered.

WHY
 Contributes to the energy efficiency of the home
• Reduces the risk of asthma and allergy
• Reduces surface moisture condensation
• Improves indoor air quality
• Eliminates mould and mildew
• Removes bad smell
• No need to open windows

PASSIVE HOUSE CRITERIA

Passive House design principles are met via quantifiable passive house criteria, a series of minimum performance requirements to achieve certification indoor air quality -The absolute indoor air humidity levels do not exceed 12 g/kg for more than 20% of the occupied time. Dehumidification allowance if no cooling plant is proposed.

Air-tightness -Air-tightness is set at = 0.6 ach (+/- 50 pascals). Alternatively, air permeability is set at = 0.6m3/hr.m2 (+/- 50 Pascals) for larger buildings.

Annual space heating demand / heating load -mnnual space heating demand is set at = 15kWh/m2.yr. Alternatively space heating load is set at 10W/m2. This represents the demand on the heating system to maintain a consistent comfortable temperature throughout the year. It is a function of the building fabric thermal performance, the air permeability and the outside air ventilation required for maintaining indoor air quality. It is independent of the proposed mechanical plant efficiencies.

Ventilation system - workshop, retail outlet, doctor's surgery, lawyer's office

The detailed design of the ventilation system depends heavily on the specification. As commercial and industrial environments often involve higher volumetric flows, use of size 90 flexible steel ducts is ad-visable in such applications. The supply and exhaust air volumetric flows in commercial and industrial environments are primarily de-termined dependent on heat loads, odour loads, and the like.So the global figure of 30 m3/h per person is rarely applied. Zenith Ventilation provide full onsite advise for all projects.

Practical Planning

Define the supply air, exhaust air and through-flow zones.

Determine the supply and exhaust air volumetric flows based on the relevant standards and directives.
Specify the positions, numbers and sizes of air valves and through-flow openings.
Specify the location of the ventilation unit and the ducting.
– The supply and exhaust air ducts should be roughly the same size.
– Allow for discharge of condensation.
Provide sound insulation by installing duct and telephony sound absorbers.
Specify the positions of the outgoing air and outside air openings, paying attention to thermal
insulation.
Position the operating unit in the living area.

FANTECH SOLUTIONS

Continuous ventilation of the roof space helps prevent the formation of excess condensation that could damage roof timbers and plasterboard ceilings.

Removing condensation also reduces the corrosion of metal coverings and appliances. Ventilation helps maintain the performance of your ceiling insulation to keep you more comfortable throughout the year.
